What are the characteristics and advantages of cotton textiles?

Cotton fabrics are woven textiles made from cotton fibers, characterized by their excellent moisture absorption, water retention, heat resistance, alkali resistance, and hygienic properties. In general, cotton fabrics offer superior moisture absorption and heat resistance, providing exceptional comfort when worn. For applications requiring high moisture absorbency, cotton fabrics are often used, such as in school uniforms.

Analysis of the Current Operational Status of China’s Industrial Textiles Industry in 2020: Promising Prospects for Future Development

Textiles are divided into three major categories: apparel, home textiles, and industrial textiles. In foreign markets, industrial textiles are also referred to as technical textiles; they are specially designed products with specific functions, used in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, environmental protection, geotechnical engineering and construction, transportation, aerospace, new energy, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Unlike the traditional textile industry, which is labor-intensive and relatively low in technological content, the industrial textiles sector is characterized by capital intensity, high technological sophistication, reduced labor requirements, and stringent demands on workforce quality. The post-processing technologies for industrial textiles can be broadly classified into coating, lamination, and composite techniques.

Common Issues in Textile Colorfastness

Common issues with textile colorfastness: 1. Poor lightfastness. During wear, the parts of outerwear exposed to sunlight tend to fade or discolor—typically the back and shoulders—while areas that receive little or no direct sunlight remain unchanged or show only slight color variation. This results in uneven coloration across a product that was originally uniform, rendering it unsuitable for further use. 2. Unsatisfactory wet‑wash, soap‑wash, and dry‑cleaning colorfastness. High‑end silk, wool, and pure cotton garments are particularly prone to these problems. 3. Poor rubbing colorfastness. As textiles are used, different parts experience varying degrees of friction, leading to uneven fading. For example, the elbows, collar, and underarms of tops are especially susceptible to color loss. Additionally, the seat and knees of trousers are also prone to fading. 4. Poor sweat‑stain colorfastness. This issue mainly affects summer clothing and close‑fitting undergarments, which may fade when exposed to perspiration during wear.

Functional textiles have become market darlings, with apparel innovation starting at the material level.

The world is changing at an accelerating pace, and this year has been no exception. Since January, the COVID‑19 pandemic has continued to spread, first within China and then globally. Just as the domestic situation began to stabilize, reports emerged of a second wave overseas, prompting European countries to implement measures to curb internal transmission. Like other sectors, the textile industry has found itself mired in difficulties. From an international trade perspective, with significant uncertainty surrounding the domestic epidemic’s trajectory, many foreign retailers fear that Chinese textile manufacturers may face further delays in deliveries. As a result, they are canceling existing orders and hesitating to place new ones, leaving apparel inventories piling up. Textile mills are operating at excess capacity, consumer demand remains weak, and the industry is undergoing a round of consolidation—survival of the fittest. For China’s textile sector, which relies heavily on offline transactions and global markets, the post‑pandemic reality of “a constrained domestic market and stalled recovery in international trade” is particularly acute, driving all players in the industry to seek new avenues for growth.
