Textiles are divided into three major categories: apparel, home textiles, and industrial textiles. In foreign markets, industrial textiles are also referred to as technical textiles; they are specially designed products with specific functions, used in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, environmental protection, geotechnical engineering and construction, transportation, aerospace, new energy, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Unlike the traditional textile industry, which is labor-intensive and relatively low in technological content, the industrial textiles sector is characterized by capital intensity, high technological sophistication, reduced labor requirements, and stringent demands on workforce quality. The post-processing technologies for industrial textiles can be broadly classified into coating, lamination, and composite techniques.

Common Issues in Textile Colorfastness

Common issues with textile colorfastness: 1. Poor lightfastness. During wear, the parts of outerwear exposed to sunlight tend to fade or discolor—typically the back and shoulders—while areas that receive little or no direct sunlight remain unchanged or show only slight color variation. This results in uneven coloration across a product that was originally uniform, rendering it unsuitable for further use. 2. Unsatisfactory wet‑wash, soap‑wash, and dry‑cleaning colorfastness. High‑end silk, wool, and pure cotton garments are particularly prone to these problems. 3. Poor rubbing colorfastness. As textiles are used, different parts experience varying degrees of friction, leading to uneven fading. For example, the elbows, collar, and underarms of tops are especially susceptible to color loss. Additionally, the seat and knees of trousers are also prone to fading. 4. Poor sweat‑stain colorfastness. This issue mainly affects summer clothing and close‑fitting undergarments, which may fade when exposed to perspiration during wear.
